This pattern has a high neck, halter neck and open neck style options with long sleeve, short sleeve and sleeveless variations. A shirt for all seasons and a pattern with lots of versatility. This pattern also looks great as a beach cover up simply lengthened (see our version in an olive cotton lawn embrodiery anglaise).
Super EASY to sew - the closed neck styles are great for beginners. A perfect first shirt to sew without buttons or other closures. The open neck style is slightly more involved, but still straight forward. If you are a beginner sewer wanting to extend yourself - the open neck style is perfect. You might like to trial it first in an up-cycled cotton sheet to build your confidence and your wardrobe at the same time. The easy-to-follow instructions build your skills as you sew.

WOVEN fabrics : Most light to mid weight woven fabrics will suit this top.
We recommend rayon, silk, polyester, light weight linen, cotton and cotton blends for summer.
Our long sleeve samples were sewn up in a range of rayons, polyesters & cotton woven fabrics. The yellow/mustard silk sewn up in the open neck Heron Shirt was originally a silk sari.
*Please also note that all (new) fabric should be pre-washed in case of shrinkage. Some fabrics will not shrink but 100% cotton, linen and rayon are almost guaranteed to shrink. It doesn't hurt to be safe and remove any dodgy chemical build up that may have occurred during printing anyway.
The samples are sewn in a variety of fabrics to give you an idea how fabric alters the look and feel of the shirt.
>The grey/lilac open neck heron top is sewn from a polyester satin. If you are uncomfortable with polyester then silk would give a similar look (more experienced sewers).
>Olive green cotton lawn embroidery anglaise - lengthened to a dress (perfect sun cover up)
>The high neck mustard and pink floral is polyester.
>The mustard and white floral open neck Heron is sewn from cotton lawn. Cotton is great for less experienced sewers.
>The black halter neck style is polyester satin
>The green & white (open neck) sample is actually an up-cycled summer cotton sheet from the thrift shop (100% light weight cotton)
>The dotted & pink open neck tops are a polyester chiffon (similar look from silk chiffon)
