Flow Dress

Regular price $15.32

Unit price per

Size

A feminine & easy wear dress that flows beautifully in rayon, silk or chiffon. Perfect for hot summer days and evenings where you can dress it up or down. This dress is a head turner, envied for its aesthetics as well as its comfort.

Wear with your summer sandals on a balmy summer evening or with your heels for special occassions. Chose to have the neck clipped, buttoned or tied closed or wear it open.

The Flow Dress makes a beautiful evening dress - particularly sewn in a flowing silk (silk chiffon or silk satin) or a viscose crepe.

 PATTERN FEATURES:

  • STYLE A - Front neck closure (hook & eye, button & loop, long tie or without)
  • STYLE B - Back neck closure (we love this with a large tie for special occassions!)
  • Dress & top (maxi length dress, top or easily adjust the length for anything in between)
  • Internal side pockets
  • Sizes NZ/AU 6-24 | US 2-20 (purchased in size bundles of 4)-refer purchasing options

Please refer details regarding fitting, fabric & sizes in the tabs below.

FABRIC

Light weight WOVEN fabrics with fluid DRAPE (the fabric falls nicely downward against the body as opposed to voluminous drape which billows out).
We highly recommend rayon, viscose, satin, chiffons & tencel. Silk chiffon, georgette or crepe works beautifully for occasion dressing.

Stay away from stiff tightly woven fabrics that do not drape (like denim, silk taffeta & suitings)

Refer product images for examples of fabric we've used.
Refer last product image for detailed fabric & haberdashery requirements.

DIFFICULTY

INTERMEDIATE

Learn how to sew a concave and convex curve (neck facing) and an innovative technique sewing the armholes.

The neck facing is finished with a curved "stitch-in-the-ditch" which is a llittle fiddly, however, hand sewing this will produce a professional finish and simplify the process.

SIZE & FITTING

The Flow dress & top have excessive ease as part of the core design. If you measure between the sizes on our size chart we recommend you size down.

The most relevant sizing consideration is the underarm. If you are large in the bust but slim in the arms we recommend you grade to a smaller size under the arm.

Our models measure as follows:
Lynley (red & green maxi lengths & top)- size UK/NZ10 (US6) - 179cm tall - A cup
Rachel (blue & white floral maxi)- size UK/NZ14 (US10) - 174cm tall - E cup
Inez (grey circle print maxi) - size UK/NZ22 (US18) - 174cm tall - E cup

You can view our size chart here.

WHAT DO I GET WITH MY PURCHASE?

Please note you are purchasing a digital pattern that will be sent directly to your email inbox after payment. You can print this pattern at home on A4 or US letter-sized paper or take it to a print shop for large scale printing (AO size). *You will not receive a hard copy printed pattern.*

Instant download available immediately after checkout includes:

1. Instructions plus links to 2 online video tutorials

2. PAH Pattern file (PAH=Print at home)
For printing in A4 or US Letter on a home printer. Printing at home is the most cost-effective, and sticking your pattern tiles together to make your full size pattern is easy. Further information for printing at home can be found in our Resources section here.

3. AO Pattern file
AO is a large scale file designed to be printed at a Print Copy Shop. You cannot print this on your home printer as it is too big. If you choose to use this large file you will pay extra to have it printed but you do not have to stick anything together. Further information for printing in large scale can be found in our Resources section here.

You can use the ADOBE LAYERS FEATURE to open the PAH pattern file and print only the size you need (and eliminate the "noise" of the unwanted sizes). You can also use the URL and bookmark links within the file to quickly access information and support. Download Adobe Reader for free (for Windows and Mac) here.

Favourite pattern

The Flow Dress will definitely be one of my new favourites! I have made several Heron dresses and I will for sure make more than one Flow Dress. Super clear instructions and easy to follow

Flow Dress, I haven't had time to make this yet. However, I have made two dresses of the Stitchbird pattern. Very comfortable to wear and lots of lovely comments from friends and strangers about how great I look!! Thank you.

Very easy to use these patterns and I see no problem using the Flow pattern, or any others I may purchase in the future.

A great dress pattern for summer

I like the design of this dress. Instructions were good, I had no trouble sewing the dress. I'm between the sizes and should have taken a size smaller, but as the neckline fits, it's easy to take in the sides a bit. I made mine from visccose fabric and it flows so prettily! Thank you!

First Impressions of the Flow Dress

This is Canada, so as the temp is -20c, I am making my 3rd pair of fleece pants. The Flow dress will probably be a top in the first making around the beginning of May (our spring). I have read the pattern, and am very impressed by your clear instructions. At this point, I see myself buying more patterns.

Love at first sight!!

As a beginner sewist, I am easily intimidated. However, when I saw how beautiful this dress is and how many ways it fits into my life, I was ready for any challenges. Thing is, there weren’t any!! An easy and satisfying sew. I’m already two blouses and two full length dresses in! You’re gonna love it

Versatile formal or informal cool dress.

This dress has exceeded all of my expectations. I love it. It is soft, flowing and easily worn relaxed at the beach or dressed up for a formal occasion. I made a self fabric belt which I generally wear loose just above the hips for a relaxed look or on my waist with a jacket formally. The neckline is interesting and stylish. With bra straps crossed the straps are unseen. The armholes are a great shape and size so don't show your bra or flabby bits. I am on the shorter side with a larger bust so I really wasn't sure if this dress would suit me but I persevered and I am so pleased I did. This dress is another fantastic design from The Sewing Revival.

perfect for hot weather

Great summer dress- easy to sew and to wear. I made it mid length (not maxi) and I love that. I'm going to make this one again.

Feminine and Flowy

I love this simple feminine dress it feels like I’m not wearing anything and on hot summer days it’s fabulous. The fact I can throw it over my bikini after surfing, or dress it up to head out for the evening makes it a wonderful asset when I pack to head away for the weekend. Already have 2 in my wardrobe.

Fantastic Design; Perfect Flow

I loved sewing this dress. It truly went together seamlessly. The drape is perfect! The neckline finishes the dress beautifully. I love a maxi dress that feels elegant- this is it!!
